The top 5 problems with auto paint shops

problems with auto paint shops

If you’ve been in an accident and need your car repaired and repainted, the last thing you need to deal with is a lousy collision repair shop.  Even if you haven’t been in an accident, but your paint could use some work, you deserve to have your car painted by good, qualified technicians in a top-notch auto body paint facility.

Are you currently researching the best auto paint shops in Tucson and the Green Valley area?  To help you with your search, here is our list of the top 5 problems you should look out for when selecting an auto body shop for your vehicle:

  1. Getting a repair or paint estimate can be a big hassle.

In some shops, it can be very time-consuming and even costly to get an estimate.  And if it’s a hassle just getting an estimate, imagine what a headache it would be to have your car painted there.

  2. The technicians are untrained and lack the proper certifications.

Unfortunately, you don’t have to have a license to work on people’s cars.  A shop can technically hire anyone they want who seems capable enough of fixing something.  But a truly great shop will be sure to hire technicians who are certified.

  3. The replacement car parts are cheap and of low quality.

Some auto paint shops will skimp on car parts, while still charging you full price for them.  Avoid this major auto body scam if at all possible by seeking reviews from friends, family, co-workers, and any reviews you might find online.

  4. The paint work is sloppy.
This is a major pet peeve for those of us in this business who genuinely care about auto paint perfection.  What many shops will do in order to save time and money is to cut corners on paint work.  They’ll neglect to mask off sections of the car during painting, they won’t take the time to properly color-match your paint, they won’t apply body cavity wax where needed, they’ll paint only the more visible sections, and sometimes they’ll even use various coats of paint that aren’t compatible with each other.

  5. There is no attention to detail.
Again, another way that some body shops will try to cut corners is by letting certain things slide.  For instance, they won’t properly connect and seal panels, leaving small, yet visible gaps.  In other cases, they’ll overlook installing parts properly, like windshield wipers, turn signals, and even headlights.
